2011 in 35 questions
January 7th, 2012
Since I didn’t really follow through on any of 2011′s NYRs, I figured this 2011 recap would be a good way to put a period at the end of the 2011 sentence. Questionnaire grabbed from Definitely RA.

1. What did you do in 2011 that you’d never done before?
Traveled for a job interview; took Step Aerobics classes; completed a breast cancer 5k; and one other endeavor that is private. (Minds out of the gutter, please!)
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
About 25% completion… yeah, pretty dismal. I don’t think I will be making NYRs this year; I pretty much know what I need to do and what I need to work on. Other than that, I’m going to take 2012 as it comes!
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully, no.
5. What countries did you visit?
USA only.
6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you didn’t have in 2011?
My passion for work. The job I had in 2011 changed radically, and in its final incarnation, turned out to be a poor fit for my skills and talents. I have a new job in 2012 which I am totally.utterly.ridiculously.excited about, so I have no doubt that my passion for work will be rekindled and strengthened.
7. What dates from 2011 will be etched upon your memory, and why?
I’m so bad with dates, but there are lots of wonderful days I will remember — Karrie’s wedding, hiking in Big Sur with the DLB, and a private experience we shared in December (seriously, get your minds out that gutter!).
8. What was your biggest achievement of this year?
Getting a new job!
9. What was your biggest failure?
My job’s irregular schedule and unpredictable traffic really disrupted my ability to keep up with morning workouts. I tried to adjust my workout schedules several times, but still was unable to consistently remain on plan. I’m going to keep working on finding what works for me in 2012.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I spent the first 6 months of 2011 with a cold, seemingly. My cube neighbor and I just passed illnesses back and forth all winter and spring.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Adobe Creative Suite 5.5. LOVE IT.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
The DLB, for his commitment to himself and to our relationship and our life together.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The VTA, who is destroying our local neighborhood.
14. Where did most of your money go?
The bank. Seriously, I bought, like, nothing this year.
15. What did you get really excited about?
Our vacation to Big Sur. I could not wait!
16. What song will always remind you of 2011?
“See You on the Other Side” by Ozzy Osbourne, because it makes me think of The Intimidator.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you: a) happier or sadder? b) thinner or fatter? c) richer or poorer?
Overall, happier, a tiiiiiiiiny bit thinner, and richer. Let’s see how long that lasts, ha!
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Hiking, exercising, getting out socially.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Giving in to intertia.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
Traveling to SoCal to visit my family, then to TN to visit the DLB’s.
21. Did you fall in love in 2011?
Yes, with my iPhone. Seriously, I became one of those sheeple.
22. What was your favorite TV program?
Game of Thrones. Awesome!
23. What was the best book you read?
Best fiction: Room by Emma Donoghue. Best non-fiction: New Media in Late 20th-Century Art by Michael Rush.
24. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I really made no great musical discoveries.
25. What did you want and get?
A new job. And something private. :)
26. What did you want and not get?
Municipal change.
27. What was your favorite film of 2011?
I finally watched Black Swan in 2011, and it was pretty good.
28. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 34, and did nothing special, just our usual intimate Thanksgiving feast.
29. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
My job not changing so radically for the worst.
30. How would you describe your personal fashion concept of 2011?
Boring, boring, boring, repetition, repetition, repetition, total lack of imagination.
31. What kept you sane?
Going to school every night and having a creative outlet.
32. What political issue stirred you the most?
The VTA thing and local government laying off police.
33. Who did you miss?
My friends. After the fun wedding stuff was over, there was a serious void.
34. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011.
Just Do It.
35. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
And Greg he writes letters
And burns his CDs
They say you were something in those formative years
Hold onto nothing
As fast as you can
Well still pretty good year
- Tori Amos
